The 914 is a grand auditorium, not a dreadnought. The GA is a little smaller and better suited for finger picking. The dreadnought is the "standard" guitar shape mainly suited for strumming.

The Taylor 900 series just adds some more detail and aesthetic extras, but usually the actual construction and tone woods are the same.
